Family Federation for World Peace and Unity
At the heart of the unification movement is the Family Federation for World Peace and Unity, its central organization (FFWPU). This association of people inspired by Reverend Moon and his wife, their words and deeds, has initiated with their councils a large number of projects in all fields, religious, economic, political, social, educational, etc. The two major branches of this Family Federation are the Universal Peace Federation and the Women’s Federation for World Peace, as explained below by Mrs. Moon herself, while she took over the inheritance of her husband, passed away in 2012.
“The sponsoring organizations for this International Leadership Conference are the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the Universal Peace Federation, and the Women’s Federation for World Peace. Each of these organizations has played, and will continue to play a critical and significant role in God’s providence. FFWPU, inheriting the foundation of the Unification Church, serves as the internal center and spiritual core of our life of faith. Centering on True Parents, FFWPU preserves the sacred value of our Heavenly Parent’s True Love, Life and Lineage, rooted in the Blessing, and lifts up and honors God’s Truth, guiding us to a life of faithful service in front of heaven, always living for the sake of others. UPF and WFWP are external extensions of the FFWPU’s vision. These two providential NGOs are grounded in True Parents’ vision and affirm the spiritual truths that Father Moon has taught. They expand and reach out to the wider world of other religions, nations, and societies, as well as to women the world over, and to all fields of human endeavor, including the media, academia, business, culture and civil society.” (International Leadership Conference Founder’s Address, Hak Ja Han, August 21, 2013, Seoul, Korea)

In May 1994, the Unification Church celebrated their 40th anniversary in Seoul, Korea. It was a type of watershed for the movement. Reverend Moon announced the merger of all of his religious, political, cultural and business organizations, — including the CAUSA, Free Press International, International Cultural Foundation, International Religious Foundation, Korean Folk Ballet, Washington Times — into a new group: the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) :
True Parents proclaimed the Family Pledge on May 1, 1994, at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of HSA-UWC. Later, on October 9, they announced the establishment of the Family Federation for World Peace, and on July 30, 1996 they held its inaugural assembly in Washington, DC. On April 10, 1997, True Parents directed that our organization’s official name be changed from the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity to the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification. This was to clarify that the original ideal world as envisioned at the Creation comes not through religion but, rather, through ideal families.
